about

Recorded with Scott Franchuk at The Audio Department, Famba features the tasty saxophone work of local jazz legend Brett Miles and the energizing back up vocals of Oliver Mtukudzi's student, Munya Mataruse.

The word "Famba" literally translated means "walk" or in some contexts "proceed." It's a song of joyous gratitude! A mother is thanked by her child for her love and for encouraging him/her to pursue his dreams and not look back but focus on the journey and road ahead.

The song is also a nod to the popular 90's township jazz/music that was popular in Southern Africa (South Africa particularly). It also uses a traditional call and response pattern for much of the song- which again is common in many African songs.
